Team Preview and Performance

Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have started this season with their opening match loss to Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets in the 2nd match of IPL 2026. In the opening game they lost the toss and opted to bat first. Opening batters took advantage in the power play โ€” skipper Ajinkya Rahane scored a half century of 67 runs in 40 balls with a strike rate of 167.50 along with Finn Allen who scored a quick-fire 37 in just 17 balls. Both opened a partnership of 69 runs together.

Later in the middle order Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored 51 runs in 29 balls and in the end Rinku Singh contributed 33 runs to post a total score of 220/4 in 20 overs. It was more than enough on paper but Mumbai Indians chased it down easily in just 19.1 overs. MI just trashed KKR’s bowlers, easy victory for them. Kartik Tyagi, Sunil Narine and Vaibhav Arora took one wicket each.

Overall KKR need to bounce back in this match against SRH in the 6th match and improve their bowling. This win is crucial to stay in the season race. They are currently sitting 8th in the IPL 2026 points table with a negative run rate of -0.687.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) started the season with an opening match loss by 6 wickets to RCB. They lost the toss and were asked to bat first. The top order struggled early, Travis Head scoring just 11 runs and Abhishek Sharma getting out for 7.

Then skipper Ishan Kishan took responsibility and played a fabulous innings, leading the team to a high scoring match with 80 runs in just 38 balls, 8 boundaries and 5 sixes, at a strike rate of 210.53. Middle order batters supported him well too. Heinrich Klaasen scored 31 runs in 22 balls and Aniket Verma hammered a quick-fire 43 in just 18 balls to take the team to a competitive total of 201/9 in 20 overs.

While defending the chase the bowlers failed to restrict RCB. Jaydev Unadkat took a crucial wicket of Salt in the second over which created early pressure on them, but RCB batter Virat Kohli was present till the end to finish the game. SRH lost their opening match. David Payne took two wickets and Harsh Dubey picked one but it was not enough to win.

Overall the SRH batting unit looks balanced. The openers need to come back strong and the bowling line-up needs to improve. A win against KKR in the 6th match of IPL 2026 is very crucial to get the season back on track. They currently sit ninth in the points table right next to KKR with a negative run rate of -2.907.

Todayโ€™s Playing XI Prediction: KKR vs SRH

Kolkata Knight Riders Playing XI:
Finn Allen, Ajinkya Rahane (c), Cameron Green, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (wk), Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Sunil Narine, Anukul Roy, Varun Chakaravarthy, Vaibhav Arora, Blessing Muzarabani

Sunrisers Hyderabad Playing XI:
Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan (c & wk), Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Aniket Verma, Harshal Patel, Jaydev Unadkat, Eshan Malinga, David Payne, Harsh Dubey

KKR vs SRH Impact Player Prediction โ€” 6th match IPL 2026

KKR are likely to use the Impact Player rule to swap a specialist batter for a specialist bowler, especially with their current injury concerns in the pace department.

If KKR bat first, Angkrish Raghuvanshi is expected to start in the XI to strengthen the top order. He would then be replaced by a pacer like Umran Malik or Kartik Tyagi during the bowling innings to bring extra speed on the Eden Gardens track. If KKR bowl first, one of the pacers, either Malik or Tyagi, will likely start and Raghuvanshi or a veteran like Manish Pandey comes in as the Impact Sub during the chase.

SRH have several high profile overseas players already set in their likely starting XI with Head, Klaasen and Livingstone, so they must use an Indian player as their Impact Sub. If SRH bat first they may start with an extra batter like Aniket Verma or Smaran Ravichandran and bring in a specialist bowler like Shivam Mavi or left arm spinner Harsh Dubey in the second innings. If SRH bowl first Mavi is likely to start and gets replaced by a hard hitting finisher like Verma or a middle order anchor during the batting innings. If the pitch shows significant turn then specialist spinner Zeeshan Ansari comes into the picture as a strong Impact Player option.

Key Players to Watch

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
  • Ajinkya Rahane (C): 67 runs against MI in the first game and he looked comfortable throughout. KKR as a batting unit functions better when Rahane sticks around. Simple as that.
  • Cameron Green: โ‚น25.2 crore. Nobody in IPL history has cost more as an overseas signing. Whether that price tag is justified or not gets answered in matches exactly like this one. Bats hard, bowls decent, and on a good day genuinely wins you games by himself.
  • Rinku Singh: Still the guy KKR turn to when things get tight in the last four overs. Now he’s vice-captain too but honestly his job description hasn’t changed much. Finisher. Match situation gets uncomfortable, he walks in.
  • Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy: Years later and batters still can’t consistently read either of them. Chakravarthy came back from the T20 World Cup as joint highest wicket taker. Home game at Eden Gardens, spin friendly conditions. SRH’s middle order won’t enjoy facing these two.
  • Angkrish Raghuvanshi: 51 off 29 balls in game one of the season. Nineteen years old and batting like he owns the place. KKR have found something real here.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
  • Ishan Kishan (C): Cummins got injured, Kishan took the armband and scored 80 in his first game as captain. Some players shrink under that kind of pressure. Kishan clearly isn’t one of them.
  • Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma: Both flopped against RCB. Head got 11, Abhishek got 7 and that’s nowhere near what this pair is capable of. One bad game though. When these two actually click together KKR will know about it very quickly.
  • Heinrich Klaasen: Got 31 against RCB and didn’t even look like he was trying that hard. That’s what makes him dangerous. When he actually decides to go, the scoring rate does something ridiculous. KKR’s bowlers need a plan and they need to execute it early.
  • Liam Livingstone: Thirteen crore rupees and SRH genuinely believe he’s worth every bit of it. Hits it a long way, bowls a few overs in the middle, gives the team flexibility most sides can’t buy. Literally.
  • David Payne: Nobody was really talking about Payne before the season started. He came in as a replacement for Edwards and took 2 wickets in game one. Now people are talking. KKR’s top order needs to watch out.

KKR vs SRH 6th Match Pitch Report: Eden Gardens

Eden Gardens is expected to be a batter’s ground for this one. True bounce, fast outfield and scores of 190 plus look very likely here. Pacers should get some early movement under lights and the surface stays fresh enough in the first innings to reward good batting. Spinners like Narine will still play a role in the middle overs but this is a ground where posting a big total and defending it is a very real option. The team batting first will fancy their chances here.

KKR vs SRH Toss Prediction IPL 2026

Eden Gardens has historically been a ground where big first innings totals put the chasing side under serious pressure. SRH play an aggressive brand of cricket and will back themselves to post a massive total and make it very hard for KKR to chase down. We are predicting SRH win the toss and elect to bat first, put runs on the board early and make the game on their terms.
