Three T20Is. Three losses. The margins were 43, 17 and 40 runs and none of them felt that close either.
The 50-over format gives them a different challenge but not necessarily an easier one. They have lost four of their last five ODIs. The Sri Lanka series in February went 2-1 and West Indies were the ones on the wrong side of it. The batting simply cannot hold together when it comes under sustained pressure and Australia are very good at applying sustained pressure.
Hayley Matthews is carrying too much. She bats, she bowls, she leads — and when she has a bad day the team tends to have a bad day with her. Dottin coming back in gives them a genuine option at the top and Taylor is still class in the middle. But the bowling leaks badly in the middle overs outside Afy Fletcher and that has been the story all tour.
World Cup qualification through the 2025 qualifiers is something. Beating Ireland and Thailand showed they belong at that level. England and South Africa last year showed they are not quite there with the best yet.

Warner Park does not do spinners many favours early on but by the time the middle overs arrive the track slows right down and that changes the game. Boundaries are short, the surface is flat and 250 is a realistic first innings target. Pacers will sniff around early with the new ball but it does not last.
