Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 27 this Saturday evening on April 18, 2026. Both sides are hungry for a win, but we are backing SRH as favourites to come out on top โ and below you can find our expert analysis and SRH vs CSK Today Match Prediction to help you understand why.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Preview and Performance
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) arrive at Match 27 placed fourth on the IPL 2026 points table. Five games played, two won, three lost, and a net run rate of +0.576. The numbers are decent enough on paper, but the manner of those three defeats is what will worry the coaching staff more than anything else.
On the batting front, SRH have been nothing short of extraordinary. They have crossed the 100-run mark in the power play three times this season, the most any team has ever managed in IPL history. Heinrich Klaasen has been their most consistent performer with 224 runs at an average of 44.8 and a strike rate of 142.68. Ishan Kishan has matched that form with 213 runs at an average of 42.6, two fifties, and a top score of 91. Abhishek Sharma has been the most destructive of the three, scoring 129 runs at a strike rate of 215.00.
Yet for all that firepower, SRH have won just two of five games. That contradiction sits at the heart of their season so far.
The bowling tells the real story. Pat Cummins has not featured in a single match this season due to injury. He recently cleared a fitness test and is expected to return for the game against Rajasthan Royals on April 25, which means he will not be available for this one. David Payne played two games before an ankle injury ended his IPL 2026. Brydon Carse was ruled out with a hand injury, and Jack Edwards did not make it past the pre-season due to a foot injury. Dilshan Madushanka was signed as Carse’s replacement for 75 lakh rupees. SRH are not rotating options at this point.
Their win against Rajasthan Royals in Match 21 offered a rare glimpse of what a complete SRH performance looks like. Ishan Kishan hit 91 at the top, Praful Hinge took four wickets for 34 runs, and SRH wrapped up a 57-run victory without too much drama.
They need that level of performance against Chennai Super Kings, across all three departments and without exception. CSK do not offer second chances.

Chennai Super Kings Preview and Performance
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) come into this game eighth on the IPL 2026 table, a net run rate of -0.846, and a start to the season that nobody at Chepauk would want to revisit. Three losses on the bounce to open the tournament. For any other franchise, that might signal panic. CSK being CSK, they steadied, won back-to-back games against Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, and suddenly look like a different side.
Two wins from five games does not sound like much. But the way those last two wins came tells you more than the numbers do.
Sanju Samson has been the story of CSK’s season. He walked in against Delhi Capitals and hit 115, the kind of innings that single-handedly changes what a team looks like in a tournament. He followed that with 48 against KKR. In five games he has scored 185 runs at an average of 46.25 and a strike rate of 172.90. Ayush Mhatre has given them exactly what they needed at the top, 171 runs at a strike rate of 171.00, including a 73 against RCB. When Mhatre gets going at the start and Samson builds in the middle, CSK have a batting unit that can post a total.
The bigger concern is what comes after the batting.
Anshul Kamboj leads the CSK bowling attack with 10 wickets and is in the conversation for the Purple Cap. Noor Ahmad has taken 8 wickets and was the Player of the Match in the KKR win, finishing with three for 21. Those two have carried the bowling unit through a crisis that keeps getting worse.
Khaleel Ahmed sustained a severe quadriceps injury during the KKR game on April 14 and is done for the season, at least 12 weeks on the sideline. Nathan Ellis never made it to the first game with a hamstring injury and has been replaced by Spencer Johnson. Akeal Hosein made his first IPL 2026 appearance as an impact player, bowled four overs, took one wicket, and gave away 26 runs. A decent enough debut, but CSK will need more from him as the tournament progresses. And MS Dhoni, who missed all five matches with a calf strain from pre-season, remains unlikely to feature on April 18 despite reports suggesting a possible return.
Then there is Ruturaj Gaikwad. He is leading the side well enough as captain, but his bat has gone quiet. An average of 12.60 across five innings is far below what he is capable of, and CSK will need him to find form at some point. Against SRH, sooner would be better than later.
Despite the injuries and the slow start, CSK carry real momentum into this game. Back to back wins have steadied the ship and given the dressing room something to build on. A third straight victory against SRH would push them up the table and send a message to the rest of the tournament that this side is not done yet. The bowling has gaps, but Kamboj and Noor Ahmad have stepped up when it mattered. If Samson fires again and Gaikwad finally finds his touch, CSK go into this one with more reasons for confidence than their eighth place ranking suggests.

Key Players to Watch โ SRH vs CSK, Match 27, IPL 2026
Sunrisers Hyderabad
- Ishan Kishan (WK/C): Kishan is doing two jobs right now and making both look easy. He has 213 runs from five matches, two fifties, and is leading the side in Cummins’ absence. The captaincy has not slowed his batting down one bit. If anything, he looks more switched on at the crease this season than he has in a while.
- Heinrich Klaasen: 224 runs, average of 44.8, and a knack for showing up when SRH need him most. Klaasen does not waste time settling in. He picks his moments, targets the middle overs, and makes it look effortless. CSK will need a specific plan for him, because bowling at him without one tends to go badly.
- Abhishek Sharma: A strike rate of 215.00 is not a typo. Abhishek has been outright violent in the powerplay this season and is a big reason SRH keep breaking those 100-run records in the first six overs. He does not take long to hurt you.
- Praful Hinge: Four wickets for 34 against Rajasthan Royals in his only game this season. With SRH’s bowling unit stretched thin by injuries, Hinge is not just a supporting option anymore. He is carrying real responsibility and so far he has handled it well.
Chennai Super Kings
- Sanju Samson (WK): 115 off 61 balls against Delhi Capitals. That innings alone changed how people see CSK’s batting this season. He followed it with 48 against KKR, so it was not a one-off either. Samson is batting with real purpose right now and SRH’s makeshift bowling attack is exactly the kind of opposition he will fancy.
- Anshul Kamboj: Ten wickets from five games and breathing down the neck of the Purple Cap leader. Kamboj has been CSK’s go-to bowler in both recent wins and keeps finding ways to take wickets when it matters. Bowling to SRH’s top order will be his biggest test of the season.
- Noor Ahmad: Three wickets for 21 against KKR, Player of the Match, and now walking into a game against a side that loves to attack spin. That is either a great match-up for him or a very difficult one. SRH’s batters do not respect reputations, which means Noor will have to earn it all over again.
- Ayush Mhatre: 171 runs at a strike rate of 171.00, and he is still making his way in the IPL. Mhatre at the top gives CSK a flying start more often than not. If he gets going in the powerplay, the whole complexion of CSK’s innings shifts pretty quickly.

SRH vs CSK Match 27 Pitch Report โ Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium
Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad for SRH vs CSK Match 27 is as batter-friendly as it gets in the IPL. The surface is flat, the bounce is true, and the outfield runs fast. This season alone, the ground has already seen a record total of 286 runs, with the average first innings score sitting at 205.
Pacers can find a hint of movement early in the power-play, but it does not last long. As the game moves into the middle overs, the pitch slows down slightly and spinners start to get a little more out of the surface. Both Noor Ahmad and Harsh Dubey will be watching that window closely.
The bigger factor tonight is the dew. Heavy dew is expected during the second innings, which tends to flatten any variation a bowling attack can offer. Chasing sides have won 67 percent of matches at this venue in IPL 2026, and that number alone makes winning the toss a significant moment. Whoever bats second carries a real advantage.
Today’s SRH vs CSK Toss Prediction โ Match 27, IPL 2026
Today’s IPL toss prediction for Match 27 points towards SRH having the edge at their home ground, the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The dew factor is expected to play a huge role tonight, and with chasing teams winning 67% of games here in IPL 2026, Pat Cummins won’t think twice about putting the opposition in to bat if he wins it. Even if Ruturaj Gaikwad gets lucky at the toss, CSK are likely to follow the same route and bowl first โ nobody wants to be defending a total on a ground where the second innings dew practically kills any chance of grip or turn.
Toss Prediction: Toss winner will bowl first. We back SRH to win the toss.
