When KKR came out to bat, Allen gave them a stunning start — 28 off just 7 balls at 400.00 with 4 fours and 2 sixes. But he was gone before anyone could blink and that set the tone for what followed. Raghuvanshi held things together with 52 off 29 at 179.31 and Rinku Singh fought hard with 35 off 25 at 140.00 but the middle order kept losing wickets at the wrong moments. Eshan Malinga was the difference maker in the field, two run outs and two wickets that broke the chase apart. KKR were all out for 161 in 16 overs, losing by 65 runs.

Prabhsimran steadied things with 43 off 34 at 126.47 and Connolly kept the foot on the gas with 36 off 22 at 163.64. Iyer came in and played the captain’s knock, 50 off 29 at 172.41, calm and calculated while everything around him was carnage. Shashank and Stoinis finished it off, 14 off 6 and 9 off 3, Punjab knocked off 210 in 18.4 overs and it never looked in doubt.

• Rinku Singh Nobody finishes an innings quite like Rinku. Punjab’s death bowlers are good but Rinku has made careers look ordinary in the final two overs before. KKR will bat around him in the final stages and rightly so.

• Shreyas Iyer (Captain) Back at Eden Gardens against the team that let him go and batting in the kind of form that makes opposition captains nervous. That 50 off 29 against CSK was not a fluke. He knows this ground and he will want to make a point here.
• Cooper Connolly Top of the run charts in IPL 2026 and not showing any signs of slowing down. He plays with a freedom that is genuinely hard to bowl at and KKR have not found answers to batters in this kind of form all season.
• Arshdeep Singh The best death bowler in this match by some distance. His yorkers are ruthless and KKR’s lower order will not enjoy facing him in the final overs. If Punjab need a wicket at any stage Iyer will throw the ball to Arshdeep.
