Team Preview and Performance
Islamabad United
Islamabad United got their PSL 2026 campaign off to a tough start, going down to Multan Sultans by 5 wickets in their opening match.
They lost the toss and were put in. 171 for 8 in 20 overs is what they managed. Not bad, not great. Conway and Sameer Minhas got them off to a reasonable start, putting on 48 together before things slowed down in the middle. Chapman was the one who held the innings together, top-scoring with 40 when the team probably needed someone to go bigger. Faheem Ashraf threw in 26 at the death to at least get them past 170, but even as it was being posted on the board it felt like it might fall short.
Turns out it did. Multan chased it down with 5 wickets to spare. Imad Wasim did get both openers out early and for a bit it looked like Islamabad might squeeze something from the game. Salman Irshad was tidy too, 4 overs for 28, picked up the Smith wicket. Shadab Khan got a couple as well but went at 9 an over which did not help. Once Multan settled, that was more or less that.
The issue was not so much the bowling falling apart, more that 171 never felt like enough to really test a decent batting lineup. A few more in the middle overs with the bat and maybe that changes. Something for them to work on.
That loss has dropped them to 7th in the points table with a run rate sitting at minus 0.25. Going into this match, they need a win and they need it convincingly enough to start chipping away at that number too.
Islamabad United Playing 11: Andries Gous (WK), Devon Conway, Sameer Minhas, Shadab Khan (C), Mark Chapman, Haider Ali, Imad Wasim, Faheem Ashraf, Richard Gleeson, Salman Mirza, Salman Irshad
Peshawar Zalmi
Peshawar Zalmi come into this one with a real spring in their step. Their opening match against Rawalpindi was something else, chasing down 215 to win at 218 for 5 in under 20 overs. What made it even more remarkable is that nobody even scored a fifty. Six different batters just kept rotating the strike and hitting boundaries when it mattered, which tells you a lot about how Babar Azam has set this team up this season.
Mohammad Haris got them off to a flyer with 47 off 28, Abdul Samad came in and smashed 33 off just 11 balls with four sixes, and Bracewell closed it out with an unbeaten 35 to take the Player of the Match. Aamer Jamal knocked off the last few with 17 not out off 5 balls. It was that kind of innings, one where the whole line-up contributed rather than one person carrying the load.
That said, giving up 214 runs in their first game is something they will need to address. Ali Raza went for 42 and Jamal conceded 43, so the bowling was generous at times. On a surface that tends to wear as the game goes on, that kind of economy could hurt them.
Zalmi currently sit 4th on the PSL 2026 table with 2 points and an NRR of plus 0.674. They are in decent shape, but facing an Islamabad side that is desperate for a win after sitting 7th with a negative run rate means this will not be an easy night for either team.
Peshawar Zalmi Playing 11: Babar Azam (C), Mohammad Haris, Kusal Mendis (WK), Aaron Hardie, Farhan Yousaf, Michael Bracewell, Abdul Samad, Aamer Jamal, Sufiyan Muqeem, Shoriful Islam, Ali Raza
Key Players to Watch
Peshawar Zalmi
- Babar Azam (Captain): 39 off 28 in a chase of 215 does not sound flashy but that is the point. He did not need to be flashy. Zalmi had enough firepower around him and Babar just made sure it did not unravel. Tonight Islamabad have to decide early whether to go after him or let him be and deal with everyone else instead. Neither option feels comfortable.
- Mohammad Haris: Hits boundaries like he has a train to catch. 47 off 28 with a strike rate of 168 in the Powerplay and Rawalpindi never really recovered from it. Gets out cheaply sometimes, but on a good day he makes the first six overs feel like a formality.
- Michael Bracewell: Probably the most awkward name on this teamsheet for Islamabad to plan around. Bats in the middle, chips in with the ball, does not really have an off day. Finished the chase with 35 off 17 unbeaten and took the Player of the Match home. Hard to stop someone who keeps showing up in the moments that matter.
- Abdul Samad: 33 runs. 11 balls. Four sixes. If those numbers do not tell the story, nothing will. He does not need long. Give him an over at the right time and suddenly a tricky target becomes a comfortable one.
- Ali Raza: Young, quick, took two wickets in the opener and looked the sharpest of the Zalmi bowlers all night. One to watch closely because he bowled with more control than most pacers his age tend to show.
Islamabad United
- Shadab Khan (Captain): 173 runs at 155.85 strike rate and 9 wickets in 8 matches. On paper he is the most complete player in this Islamabad lineup. Tonight he needs to back that up because this team genuinely looks like it feeds off his energy. Quiet night from Shadab and the whole XI feels a bit flat.
- Andries Gous: Four matches, 138 runs, average of 46, strike rate over 153. He has been quietly one of the most consistent batters in the tournament and somehow still feels underrated going into this game. Islamabad need him to get in and stay in.
- Mark Chapman: Top scored in the Multan loss with 40 off 21. Nobody else really got going around him which made it feel even more lonely. Same knock tonight but with a bit more support and this becomes a different conversation altogether.
- Imad Wasim: Got both Multan openers out and has been keeping an economy of 7.45 while picking up 10 wickets recently. The kind of bowler who rarely looks spectacular but always seems to take the wicket the team needs. Zalmi’s top order will know his name well going into this.
- Mohammad Hasnain: Raw pace, not much more to say. If the pitch offers anything at all in the first few overs, he can make life very uncomfortable at the top. Islamabad’s best chance of an early breakthrough runs through him.

ISU vs PSZ Pitch Report โ Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore
Gaddafi Stadium has historically been a batting first venue, with teams winning around 61% of matches here after choosing to bat. This season though, three matches have gone each way through the first six games of PSL 2026. The surface has been offering decent pace early on which suits the fast bowlers, and as the innings progresses it tends to flatten out and becomes better to bat on. With dew expected to creep in later in the evening, a team batting first and posting a big total would be in the stronger position tonight. Spinners will find it harder to grip the ball in the second innings which makes defending a total the smarter play here.
ISU vs PSZ Toss Prediction โ PSL 2026
Both captains will know exactly what this pitch offers and what the dew can do later on. With the surface playing well early and conditions expected to ease as the game goes on, batting first and posting a total makes more sense tonight than chasing under lights with a wet ball. We are predicting Peshawar Zalmi win the toss and elect to bat first, back their batting depth to post a total above 185 and trust their bowlers to defend it while conditions are still fresh.

ISU vs PSZ Today Match Prediction โ Who Will Win todayโs PSL?
Islamabad are under pressure and that can go one of two ways in cricket. Either it brings the best out of them or the cracks start to show. Right now, with a negative run rate and one loss already on the board, they are chasing the game before it has even started. Zalmi on the other hand look settled, confident and have already shown this season they can post big totals and chase anything down. The batting depth is real, the bowling has enough to defend, and Babar Azam leading a side in good form is never an easy proposition. We are backing Peshawar Zalmi to win the 7th match of PSL 2026 and make it two from two.
