In reply, South Africa struggled to keep up with the required rate and were bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs. Shafali Verma anchored India’s innings with a stunning, match-winning knock that earned her the Player of the Match award. Deepti Sharma showcased remarkable consistency and all-round excellence across the tournament, which rightfully earned her the Player of the Series award.

Harmanpreet Kaur proved to be an exceptional leader for the Indian Women’s Cricket Team and guided her side to their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title in 2025. Her leadership shone in the semi-final against the seven-time champions where India produced a record-breaking chase to reach the final.

In crucial matches, Kaur not only read the game brilliantly but also used her bowlers with precision. Meanwhile, she kept her players motivated and focused even when the pressure was at its peak. By lifting the trophy, she fulfilled a long-standing dream for Indian cricket and inspired a new generation of women to believe that success in world cricket is within reach. This took 47 years for this moment, from heart break in 2005 and 2017 narrowly miss, this journey made them strong and filled with lessons and dreamed about winning this World cup trophy.

South Africa Women reached the final ahead of India by defeating England Women in the semi-final. However, in the championship match, they failed to chase the challenging target of 299 runs set by India Women. Their skipper, Laura Wolvaardt, played an outstanding knock, scoring a fighting century of 101 runs off 98 balls.

Despite Laura Wolvaardt’s brilliant century, the South African batting lineup couldn’t maintain momentum as wickets kept falling at crucial stages. As the innings progressed, India’s bowlers increased the pressure with disciplined spells and smart field placements. Meanwhile, partnerships failed to develop, leaving Wolvaardt to fight a lone battle in the middle. After her dismissal in the 41st over, South Africa’s hopes began to fade rapidly, and India took full control of the match. In the end, South Africa had to settle for the runners-up position in what was their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup final appearance in 2025.
