Riley Meredith showed what he can do with 3/38 against Quetta Gladiators and Hasan Khan has chipped in with three wickets alongside a handy 45 runs with the bat this season. But as a unit, the bowlers have leaked too many runs and failed to defend totals they should not have lost. That needs fixing, and fast.

The bowling is a different conversation though. Raza took two wickets but 42 runs off his spell is not what you want. Jamal, brilliant as he was with the bat, went for 43 in three overs. Hardie picked up a wicket but leaked 36 in three overs too. The economy figures across the board are hard to ignore, especially with Hyderabad coming into this match having posted 225 in their last game. Yes, Multan chased it, but 225 on the board means HYDK’s batters are in form and finding their range at exactly the right time.
