Team Preview and Performance
Rawalpindiz
Rawalpindiz are the debutants of PSL 2026, one of two new franchises introduced in the expanded eight-team edition of the league, and their start to life in Pakistani franchise cricket has been a difficult one.
Led by the ever-dependable Mohammad Rizwan, they have lost both of their matches and find themselves second from the bottom of the points table with zero points and mounting pressure heading into this Saturday night clash.
In their opening match against Peshawar Zalmi (Match 3), Rawalpindiz produced a batting performance that had everyone talking. Yasir Khan blazed 83 runs off 46 balls in a dynamic opening stand of 125 with captain Rizwan, who contributed 41. Kamran Ghulam (37) and Daryl Mitchell (23) pushed the total to 214/4 โ a formidable score by any measure.
Yet Peshawar Zalmi, needing 85 off the last 35 balls with four wickets in hand, were dragged to victory by a sensational fifth-wicket partnership between Michael Bracewell (35* off 17) and Abdul Samad (33 off 11). Rishad Hossain and Mohammad Amir, both economical through the middle, lost the plot at the death, and Rawalpindiz suffered a gut-wrenching five-wicket defeat in their PSL debut.
They showed no improvement in the bowling department in Match 10 against Karachi Kings. Again the batters did their job, with Daryl Mitchell (65 off 41) and Sam Billings (58 off 35) putting on a match-defining 120-run partnership for the fourth wicket. But 197/6 was not enough when Azam Khan arrived with a promotion in the order and launched a stunning 74 off 34 balls.
David Warner’s 50 at the top had already set the platform, and Hasan Ali (3-24) exposed the fragility of the Rawalpindiz lower order in the back end of their innings. Naseem Shah, a key weapon, also left the field during the match with a side strain, raising further concerns about their bowling depth ahead of this game.
The pattern is clear: Rawalpindiz can bat, but their bowling has let them down both times at the death. Until they solve that problem, turning this form around will be very hard. Rizwan will know that tonight, on a batter-friendly Lahore surface against a confident Islamabad United, his bowlers need to stand up in a way they have not yet managed.
Islamabad United
Islamabad United have had a mixed but ultimately encouraging start to PSL 2026. Under captain Shadab Khan, they went down in their tournament opener against Multan Sultans in Match 4, had a rain-abandoned game against Peshawar Zalmi in Match 7, and then bounced back emphatically by dismissing Quetta Gladiators for 183 and chasing it down with eight wickets and more than 10 balls to spare in Match 9.
In their defeat to Multan Sultans, United managed just 171/8 in their 20 overs. Mark Chapman top-scored with a composed 40 off 21 balls and was the only batter to truly get going, while Sameer Minhas made 28. Momin Qamar’s three-wicket burst proved decisive in strangling the innings through the middle overs.
Multan’s reply was clinical, with Josh Philippe (55) and Ashton Turner (43*) calmly shepherding them home with more than an over in hand. It was a chastening night, but what United showed in that match was that their batting can be fragile if bowled at with discipline.
They answered back superbly in Match 9. Shadab turned in one of his finest PSL bowling displays to take 3-23 and rein in a Quetta batting unit that had threatened a big total. When United batted in reply, the teen sensation Sameer Minhas played a knock that should feature in PSL highlight reels for years.
His 82 off 48 balls was an innings full of authority, power and timing, and his 128-run third-wicket partnership with Shadab Khan (69* off 39) was the difference between the sides. United were cruising from the moment those two came together, and the ease of the victory โ eight wickets, with 10 balls remaining โ was a sign of a team coming into form at the right time.
Shadab Khan’s all-round performance was the story of that match and will continue to be the story heading into Saturday. A captain who takes three wickets and hits an unbeaten fifty in the same game is a match-winner, and United have that on their side. Add Devon Conway at the top, Imad Wasim in the middle, and a settled bowling unit, and this is a side that has the tools to dismantle Rawalpindiz on their day.

RWP vs ISU Key Players to Watch โ Match 12, PSL 2026
ISU
- Shadab Khan (C): There is no more dangerous cricketer in this PSL right now when it comes to combined impact. Three wickets with the ball and 69* with the bat against Quetta is the kind of all-round contribution that can win and lose tournaments on its own. Against a Rawalpindiz batting unit that already looked shaky against sustained pressure, Shadab’s leg-spin in the middle overs will be a serious threat. And if United need runs under pressure, their captain is exactly the man to provide them.
- Sameer Minhas: The 19-year-old has taken PSL 2026 by the scruff of the neck and announced himself as one of the tournament’s standout talents. His 82 off 48 against Quetta was mature beyond his years, and the freedom with which he plays at the top of the order against both pace and spin makes him very difficult to plan for. Rawalpindiz will have no easy formula to contain him. A big knock from Minhas will almost certainly settle this match.
- Devon Conway: Conway was quiet in the Quetta match after departing early, but his presence at the top alongside Minhas gives United a genuinely destructive opening combination. On the flat Lahore surface with dew assisting in the second innings, Conway will be looking to launch United into a position where Shadab and the middle order can finish the job. A good start from the Kiwi lefthander sets the tone for everything that follows.
- Imad Wasim: Imad’s role in this United side is understated but vital. He held things tight in the middle overs against Quetta and chips in with key contributions under pressure. His left-arm spin at the death and his canny batting in the lower middle order makes him a genuine all-round threat that Rawalpindiz’s batting unit will need to respect.
RWP
- Mohammad Rizwan (C): Rizwan’s captaincy and his own batting have been two of the very few positives for Rawalpindiz this season. A composed 41 against Zalmi and his leadership under pressure suggest a captain giving everything he has. He needs a big knock on Saturday, and batting at number two, he will have every opportunity to anchor the innings and build something meaningful against Islamabad’s spin-heavy attack.
- Daryl Mitchell: The New Zealand all-rounder has been the standout performer with the bat for Rawalpindiz and arguably their most important player. His 65 off 41 against Karachi Kings was a composed and powerful innings that showed exactly what he is capable of. Mitchell’s ability to accelerate through the gears and play both pace and spin with equal authority gives the Rawalpindiz middle order its best chance of posting a competitive total.
- Yasir Khan: The uncapped young opener was the talking point in the Rawalpindiz camp after his explosive 83 on debut in Match 3. His power hitting and freedom of stroke play at the top of the order could be the X-factor Pindiz desperately need โ a fast start would change the dynamic of this game entirely. Whether he can back that up against a quality United bowling attack is the question.
- Mohammad Amir: Amir is Rawalpindiz’s most experienced bowler and their best hope of keeping United’s dynamic top order honest at the start of the innings. The veteran left-arm swing bowler still has the ability to move the ball in the powerplay and create early problems. If United get through him and Conway and Minhas get settled at the crease, this game could get very one-sided, very quickly.

RWP vs ISU Match 12 Pitch Report โ Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore
Gaddafi Stadium has been an absolute paradise for batters in PSL 2026. The surface is flat, the outfield is rapid, and totals of 175 and above have been the norm across all matches played here so far. The record-breaking high-scoring nature of the tournament this season is in large part a product of this venue and what it offers to strokemakers.
Pacers get a touch of assistance with the new ball in the powerplay, particularly if there is any residual moisture in the pitch, but the surface eases out considerably as the innings progresses. Spinners have found it harder to grip the ball as dew descends under the floodlights in the second innings. The team batting first will want to get above 175 to give themselves genuine protection; anything under that total has proven difficult to defend.
The captain who wins the toss will almost certainly look to bowl first, back their bowlers to restrict the opposition, and then use the dew-affected surface in the second innings to overpower whatever total is set. All of PSL 2026’s matches at Lahore have reinforced this logic, and the toss remains a significant advantage at this venue.
RWP vs ISU Toss Prediction โ PSL 2026
Dew has been the overriding factor in every night match at Gaddafi Stadium in PSL 2026, consistently assisting the side batting second by making the ball harder to grip and slippery for spinners. The captain winning the toss this season has almost always chosen to bowl.
Mohammad Rizwan will look to do the same if he calls it right on Saturday โ he will want to restrict United and set a target for his batters to chase with a favourable surface. Islamabad United are predicted to win the toss and elect to field first, with Shadab Khan well aware of the conditions and the value of bowling in the powerplay before the dew arrives.

RWP vs ISU Today Match Prediction โ Who Will Win Today?
Rawalpindiz have shown in both of their matches that they have genuine batting quality, but their inability to defend totals or restrict opponents at the death has been a defining weakness. Islamabad United, by contrast, are a side with real match-winners across all departments and are hitting their stride at just the right moment. Shadab Khan is in the form of his life with both bat and ball, Sameer Minhas looks like a star in the making, and their bowling unit has more variety and experience than anything Rawalpindiz can throw at them.
Rawalpindiz will make a game of it if Rizwan, Mitchell and Yasir Khan fire in the same innings โ but based on current form and the overall balance of both squads, Islamabad United are the clearer pick here. We are backing Islamabad United to win Match 12 of PSL 2026.
