Team Performance
NZ-W:
New Zealand Women have looked right at home throughout this series, and it has shown in every result. Three T20Is, two ODIs, five wins on home soil. Amelia Kerr’s White Ferns have made full use of familiar conditions throughout and Wednesday’s third ODI at University Oval gives them the chance to seal a perfect home series.
A lot of that is down to Kerr personally. The skipper took 7/34 in the second ODI, a national record on home turf, and already has 11 wickets from just two games. She has also been opening the batting and scored 45 last time out. Very few players in world cricket right now are contributing like that across both departments and New Zealand crowds have been treated to something special from their captain this series.
Molly Penfold grabbed 3/17 last time out and has been a reliable option alongside Kerr throughout. Nensi Patel and Rosemary Mair add real variety to the attack and have made batting at University Oval a tough experience for the visitors all series.
Brooke Halliday’s unbeaten 157 in the first ODI was the standout batting moment of the tour. She leads the series run tally with 164 and has looked completely at ease in home conditions. Maddy Green has quietly done her job every time she has walked in. The two put on 122 together in the opener and that partnership killed the contest before it had a chance to breathe. Green then finished the second chase on 27 not out with plenty to spare.
Worth keeping an eye on is who opens alongside Kerr. Gaze replaced McLeod for the second ODI and whether that sticks will be interesting to see. Jess Kerr sat out the last game after a solid T20I series and could come back into the side here.
New Zealand are at home, in brilliant form, and playing with real confidence heading into this final match.
ZIM-W:
It has been a hard tour for Zimbabwe. Two ODIs, two defeats, and very little to show for it on the scoreboard. Conceding 354 in the first game and then getting bowled out for 102 in the second tells its own story. Wednesday is the last chance for the Lady Chevrons to leave New Zealand with something positive.
Kelis Ndhlovu has been their one consistent bright spot with the bat. Her 52 in the first ODI showed she can hang around at this level and she leads the team’s run tally heading into the final game. She also bowls left arm spin which makes her one of the more complete players in this side. Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano alongside her at number three brings experience and the two put on 93 together in the opener which was the best batting the visitors have produced all series. The middle order though, Biza and Tshuma in particular, have not done enough and that needs to change on Wednesday.
Bowling has been the real problem. Five wickets across two ODIs is a poor return and captain Nomvelo Sibanda has not taken one all series. That is a difficult position for any leader to be in. Christabel Chatonzwa is the only bowler who has taken wickets in both games and she will carry real responsibility here. Zimbabwe need early breakthroughs badly otherwise this could get away from them quickly again.
With nothing left to play for in terms of the series result, Zimbabwe might hand some younger players a run here. That experience alone will matter for this group going forward.
Getting a result against this New Zealand side at home is a big ask but a fighting performance would at least give them something to take back.

Pitch Condition and Toss Factor
University Oval in Dunedin tends to offer something for everyone early on. The surface usually has a bit of green and some moisture in the morning which gives the seamers a good chance if they hit the right areas. As the day goes on and the sun gets to work the pitch generally settles down and batting becomes a lot more straightforward. The boundaries square of the wicket are fairly short which means runs can come quickly once a batter gets their eye in.
The toss will matter here. Dunedin mornings can be chilly and the conditions early on tend to suit bowling first. Any captain winning the toss will likely look to put the opposition in and make use of that overhead cover and movement off the pitch. For Zimbabwe that first fifteen overs will be crucial. If they can weather that early spell and keep wickets in hand they give themselves a chance of posting something competitive. Chasing has historically been the easier option at this ground which only adds to the importance of the toss result.
